The Wonky Donkey   (Craig Smith; ill. Katz Cowley).

This Christchurch ex-busker has produced an irresistible patter song which has already achieved overseas success. The book is accompanied by a cd of The Wonky Donkey song, as well as other material written and performed by the author. This rinky- dinky piece of hanky- panky may turn out to be a one-hit wonder for Smith, as it would be a very hard act to follow. But of course one-hit wonders are often outstanding because they are strong enough to propel relative unknowns into the limelight.

This is one such book. Anyone who has a chance to hear a live performance of The Wonky Donkey song should definitely take it.

     Willbee the Bumblebee

From the creators of award-winning #1 bestseller The Wonky Donkey - a catchy song with endearing illustrations that will have you buzzing!

"And as Willbee flew away, he did not stop,
his jersey unravelled from the bottom to the top,
and when he realised this, he lost his hum …
He was showing the whole garden his bare bum!"

Willbee the bumblebee is so embarrassed when he realises his stripy jumper has caught on a rose thorn and completely unravelled ...

Dork Diaries  (By:  Rachel Renèe Russell)

Dork Diaries follows Nikki Maxwell through her first weeks at her new school where she feels totally alone and instead of getting a super-cool cell phone that will help her get in with the popular girls, she gets a diary to write down all the shame that comes with being the new girl at an exclusive school with no cell phone...

   Dork Diaries 3:  Pop Star

Ever since she started at her posh private school Nikki Maxwell has been doing everything she can to keep everyone from learning  the truth - that she's there on scholarship in exchange for her Dad working as the school's exterminator. But now it looks like her secret might be about to come out and Nikki's willing to go to any zany and wacky length to prevent that from happening. And when a major talent competition is announced with a school scholarship being the top prize the timing seems perfect! Now Nikki can have fun singing and dancing with her friends and compete to finally stop worrying about ruining what little reputation she has if people find out that she only attends Westchester because of her dad's embarrassing job. But as usual for Nikki nothing is ever as simple as it seems...

Nikki Maxwell is living her worst nightmare - her diary is missing!  As she retraces her steps to find the lost book, Nikki offers a list of important tips and advice on how to keep a diary.  Readers can write and draw their own entries as they follow Nikki's efforts to recover the missing diary - and deal with the usual funny, wacky antics of her best friends Chloe and Zoey, crush Brandon, and mean girl Mackenzie.  It's crisis management ... Dork Diaries style.

Cover art of the children's picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle  The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a simple one that emphasizes numbers and days of the week. The caterpillar is not only very hungry, but he also has unusual tastes in food, ones that delight children. After popping out of an egg on Sunday, the very hungry caterpillar eats holes through the book's pages as he eats his way through a variety of foods, beginning with one apple on Monday and two pears on Tuesday and ending with five oranges on Friday and 10 different foods on Saturday (chocolate cake, ice cream, a pickle, Swiss cheese, salami, a lollipop, cherry pie, sausage, a cupcake, and watermelon).

Not surprisingly, the very hungry caterpillar ends up with a stomach ache. Fortunately, a serving of one green leaf helps. The now very fat caterpillar builds a cocoon. After staying in it for two weeks, he nibbles a hole in the cocoon and emerges into a beautiful butterfly.
