Definition:
Electronic learning or e-learning is a general term used to refer to computer-enhanced learning. At Broadlands School we believe it is so much more. E-learning is about using a wide variety of higher order thinking skills combined with a wide variety of technology tools such as IWB, Notebooks, iPods, Computers, Laptops, Digital cameras, Camcorders, Sound tracks etc.
As a staff we are using the Sauce Model and Inquiry Learning is our method of teaching.
Whilst Literacy and Numeracy are the curriculum priorities, Inquiry Learning is also a high priority. Inquiry Learning is aligned to the way children learn in the 21st century. It also develops the skills, knowledge and understanding they will need for the future both in education and in their careers.
SOLO Taxonomy:
The Structure of Observed Learning Outcome (SOLO) taxonomy is a model that describes levels of increasing complexity in student's understanding of subjects.
The model consists of 5 levels of understanding:
- Pre-structural - The task is not attacked appropriately; the student hasn’t really understood the point and uses too simple a way of going about it.
- Uni-structural - The student's response only focuses on one relevant aspect.
- Multi-structural - The student's response focuses on several relevant aspects but they are treated independently and additively. Assessment of this level is primarily quantitative.
- Relational - The different aspects have become integrated into a coherent whole. This level is what is normally meant by an adequate understanding of some topic.
- Extended abstract - The previous integrated whole may be conceptualised at a higher level of abstraction and generalised to a new topic or area.
